Rugeley, Staffordshire — Staffordshire Police are appealing for witnesses after a motorcyclist sustained serious injuries in a hit-and-run collision on Friday evening (4 July).

Officers were called at 5.15 pm to Penkridge Bank Road at the junction with Marquis Drive following reports that a black Volkswagen Golf had collided with a motorcycle before fleeing the scene towards Cannock.

The rider, a man in his 20s, was airlifted to hospital with serious head, facial and torso injuries. He remains in a stable condition under the care of medical staff.

A short time after the collision, a 41-year-old man from the Cannock area handed himself in to police. He has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of a collision and is due to be interviewed later this week.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have relevant dashcam or CCTV footage. Anyone with information is asked to call Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 619 of 4 July. Those who wish to remain anonymous can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
